hi Minna,

I'm not really familiar with the trails in the jura. However, last september, I participated at "La forestière" to do the 100km.
And I can assure you : the trails are really beautifull !!
It's a very demanding mix of rocks, singletracks in woods and sections trough green fields doing slalom between cows. I know that this trail is also for a great part on private sections, so you can't bike there any other day of the year.
As you probably know, la Forestière is somewhat different, as start and finish is not in the same place, but the organisation is very good with busses to the start in the morning.
Camping in the finish area is very limited, we stayed at "auberge du lac Genin" ( lacgenin.free.fr ), camping and small hotel in a wonderfull location, at lac Genin. This is app. 30 minutes driving to start and 20 to finish.

I'll be doing this marathon again this year, it's to beautifull to ignore !!!!
Hope this helps, and feel free to send a pm for additional information

best regards,

kona-boy

M., The problem met the GTJ (well in your case anyway  ) is that it is a trail that stretches over a 370K , so staying in one place is nearly impossible, unless you have the opportunity to ride back and forth (by car) after each ride...
You could of course do the GTJ and rent a house near the end of it, so you could stay there after completing the GTJ. Depending on your level, you can do the GTJ in 5-7 days... but you knew that already
I'm not sure I mentioned this site already, but it gives you a good idea about the GTJ..

About the Forestiere, it's on my wishlist also, lots of rocky stuff and highly technical at places.

Kona, thanx!

I'm wondering, surely there are there buses *back* to the start as well after having finished the ride? I've been looking for rental houses at the start, that's why I am asking ...

Yes, I've heard so many nice comments about La Forestière, and now that I finally bought a car, I can move around at my heart's pleasure! :)

Adri,

Yep, I knew all that about GTJ. I have no problems with the distance, only the amount of holiday I have each year, and I am planning other trips abroad as well (in addition to Sweden and France). But can you tell me, is GTJ the ONLY trail out there, or is there a system of VTT trails to pick from in addition to it? I can't find any info about other trails than GTJ.

Got to dash,
Thanx again,
Minna

Dash - whiter than white- Minna

Well, sure there are other trails in the Jura, but why would you want to look for trails if you have the GTJ?

As for the Forestiere - check out this link :
http://www.la-forestiere.asso.fr/dossier/index.html

You might wanna try this forum, it's full of French guys  .. but I'm sure they can tell you all about routes in the Jura...

I see the 02 bikers are arranging a trip down for la Forestiere. Maybe they have done this previous years as well? In that case, can anybody tell me how the trip was organized? Buses, times etc? I tried to e-mail the 02 bikers, but had no reply so far.

Thankful for help,
Cheers,
Minna

Hallo,
