http://www.flickr.com/photos/16933657@N08/sets/I chose titanium not because it’s the lightest material on the market. I believe that when you reduce the weight to sub 1000g, you begin to lose the ride qualities which titanium is known for. My objective is to provide the cyclist with a bike that is sensible to his or her anthropometric proportions and designed to provide the necessary qualities of their particular type of riding style (i.e. hill climbers, gran-fondisti, cyclo-sportifs, sprinters, etc). I’ve been riding all types of ti bikes for the last 15 years and wouldn’t trade the ride quality for 200 grams, but that’s my personal opinion. There are many fine builders working in carbon, steel, and aluminum but the whole process, at least for me, merits a material that is eternal such as titanium. For the price of some off-the-shelf aluminum and carbon bikes I can offer custom work for a competitive price, usually less expensive than the competitors. I can do this because I don’t have a sales force that dictates my volume and have no warehouse of stock that I have to constantly keep moving. I order the tubing based on each individual project. I usually take between 6-8 weeks to build a frame which, for most companies, would be considered a loss.
